Wi-Fi runs on a small number of channels, and in a street of closely spaced houses your router is sharing those channels with a dozen neighbours, all of them louder in your house than you would like. The classic symptom is a connection that is perfectly fine during the day, tests at full speed whenever you check it, and then becomes unusable around seven in the evening when every household is streaming at once. People almost always assume this is their internet plan and pay to upgrade it, which changes nothing, because the bottleneck is the airspace rather than the line.
